Job Description
Department: Communications | Working Group: Content Production | Position Type: Volunteer (Unpaid) | Time Commitment: 6–10 hours/week | Location: Remote | Positions Available: Up to 3
The MEA Institute for Strategic Studies is seeking up to three Content Writers to produce written outputs that support the Institute’s communications and editorial strategy. Writers will produce web copy, social scripts, institutional summaries, briefings, and other editorial content. Messaging must be cohesive, clear, and aligned with the Institute’s voice. Future scale will introduce language specialisation tracks in English, French, and Arabic.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce written outputs including web copy, social scripts, newsletter content, and institutional summaries.
- Ensure all written communications are clear, accessible, and consistent with the Institute’s editorial voice.
- Adapt complex research and policy content into digestible formats for diverse audiences.
- Collaborate with the Graphic Designer and Social Media Team on content requiring visual or multimedia production.
- Copyedit and review content produced by other team members where required.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in updating and maintaining website content using CMS platforms, including WordPress.
- Strong written English; ability to adapt tone and register across different formats and audiences.
- Experience writing for policy, international affairs, journalism, or institutional communications.
- Copyediting experience is an asset, particularly of high-level documents, reports, and briefings.
- Regional knowledge of the Middle East or Africa is an asset.
- Writing samples or a professional portfolio are strongly encouraged.
Language Requirements
English fluency required. French and Arabic are considered strong assets.
