Department: Communications  |  Working Group: Community & Outreach  |  Position Type: Volunteer (Unpaid)  |  Time Commitment: 8–12 hours/week  |  Location: Remote

The MEA Institute for Strategic Studies is seeking a Social Media & Community Manager to lead the Institute’s presence across Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X. The role combines platform content management with community engagement, requiring the ability to develop and execute a social media calendar, respond to audience interactions, and grow the Institute’s digital community. The Social Media & Community Manager will coordinate closely with the Multimedia Producer on content production scheduling and will provide cross-coverage when other team members are unavailable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a social media content calendar across all active platforms.
  • Adapt content from the Institute’s research, events, and multimedia outputs for platform-specific distribution.
  • Monitor engagement, respond to comments, and actively foster online community growth.
  • Coordinate with communications team members on content production scheduling and delivery.
  • Track platform performance and contribute data to the Analytics Officer’s monthly reports.
  • Provide cross-coverage and support when other Communications team members are unavailable.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts for an organisation, brand, or publication.
  • Demonstrated ability to increase internal and external engagement through diverse media formats and storytelling.
  • Understanding of platform algorithms, content formats, and audience engagement strategies across Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X.
  • Experience developing and executing social media calendars, responding to comments, increasing platform engagement, and fostering online communities.
  • Canva or equivalent design tool proficiency for basic asset production is an asset.
  • Experience in a policy, international affairs, media, or non-profit environment is an asset.
  • Links to managed accounts or a portfolio of social campaigns are strongly encouraged.

Language Requirements

English fluency required. French and Arabic are considered strong assets.
