Rachael Nyirongo

Biography
Rachael Nyirongo works with the MEA Institute for Strategic Studies on human rights and migration in Africa and previously served as Director of the Southern Africa Desk. Her work sits at the intersection of research, policy, and advocacy, with a focus on migration governance and rights-based approaches.
She has over five years of experience in the NGO and research space, including leading contributions to a multi-country project on corporate accountability in the extractive sector, focusing on AngloGold Ashanti’s operations across South Africa, Tanzania, and Ghana. She has published widely on human rights, extractive governance, and environmental issues, including co-editing New Agenda Issue 91 on climate change in Africa. Her work spans policy analysis, legal research, and programme coordination, with a strong interest in advancing accountability and justice across the continent.
Rachael is particularly interested in advancing rights-based approaches to migration and strengthening accountability mechanisms across Africa through policy and research, with a broader commitment to social justice.
